Susan Roberts

Griot’s Corner Program Coordinator

Brief info

Susan Roberts is the part-time Griot’s Corner Program Coordinator at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, where Susan enjoys researching books, planning activities and finding community leaders to read in the literacy program designed for PreK-3rd grade students. A lifelong commitment to volunteerism lead Susan to Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park to help with administrative work, and that time has expanded to helping in event planning and programs. In the past Susan’s interest in education through alternative sources comes from twenty years as a trained docent, teaching three programs connecting art and history at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield MA, and as a staff member at the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio University in Athens, OH. Her professional career includes community relations management and retail management. She and her husband, Dean, have lived on Hilton Head Island for twenty years and are active in the community through several church and civic associations. Their son, Jeff, and his wife live in Cambridge, MA.

Support our efforts to preserve, promote and honor Historic Mitchelville, the first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people in the United States by sharing, donating, and volunteering.
