Dust Off Your Boots & Hats & Saddle Up for the 2025 Blue & BBQ Annual Fundraising Benefit
Saddle up and join us for an unforgettable afternoon at the 2025 Blue & BBQ, where the Old West’s charm meets the Lowcountry’s soulful vibes. Put on your cowboy boots and hats, and get ready to enjoy Hilton Head Island’s only outdoor Lowcountry Dance with a modern twist on classic cowboy charm.
Join Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park for the 2025 Blue & BBQ Annual Fundraising Benefit, a unique event combining music, food, and immersive activities with a Modern Cowboy twist. This year’s benefit supports Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park’s 2025 fundraising efforts, including the completion of key park projects that bring the Mitchelville story to life.
Live Music & Dancing

Proceeds support Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park’s year-round work in preserving and sharing the rich history of America’s first self-governed community of the formerly enslaved.
Parking & Shuttle
Complimentary shuttle service is available from Cherry Hill School (Dillon & Beach City Road).

This year’s benefit continues the success of raising over $50,000 in 2024 to launch the Mitchelville School Outreach Program, which brings the story of resilience, determination, and Gullah Geechee culture to Lowcountry students. Let’s continue building on that success to impact future generations!
Fundraising Focus:
Proceeds from this event will advance several transformative projects at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, including:
- Era Home Garden: A historically accurate garden showcasing African seeds and outdoor household practices.
- Archaeological Core Samples: 3-D displays of historical artifacts for visitor interpretation.
- Interpretive Trail: A 12-foot-wide path connecting key interpretation points with outdoor exhibits and original artworks.
- Church/Archaic Reflection Area: A spiritual space for contemplation and learning about Mitchelville’s history.
